Duterte vows justice for slain OFW in Abu Dhabi — Palace

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 1) — President Rodrigo Duterte has vowed justice will be served for the death of Filipino worker Mary Anne Daynolo in Abu Dhabi, spokesman Harry Roque says.

Roque made the announcement during his virtual briefing on Monday.

The Labor Department confirmed the death of Daynolo, a hotel receptionist who had been reported missing since March last year. Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said a body in an “advanced stage of decomposition” had been discovered this January, which is believed Daynolo’s.

Bello added that a Ugandan suspect had already confessed to killing her and is currently behind bars. Authorities in Abu Dhabi are on the lookout for the suspect’s accomplices as well.

The Labor chief said the remains have been brought back to the Philippines, and Daynolo’s family had requested for a DNA test on the body. The National Bureau of Investigation will be conducting an autopsy on the remains, Bello added.

Roque said the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration has been assisting Daynolo’s family on the ordeal, taking care of the expenses for her burial. The family will also be receiving financial assistance and death benefits, he added.
