Laguna clinical trial ends, analysis starts for VCO as COVID-19 treatment

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, October 23) — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) said data analysis started this week for the community-based clinical trials on the use of virgin coconut oil (VCO) as treatment for COVID-19.

[Translation: This was completed. This week, they started data analysis to know if those who received VCO recuperated faster than others.]

Dela Pena was referring to the VCO clinical trials conducted at the Sta. Rosa Community Hospital in Laguna that involved 56 probable and mild COVID-19 cases.

He noted that the result of the statistical analysis is expected by second week of November, while completion of the whole study is expected by December since there are still other steps remaining, like writing of report/publications, and information dissemination activities.

Prior to this, the DOST said that laboratory tests on VCO yielded “very promising results” that showed the product can reduce coronavirus count by 60% to 90%.
