Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 25) – Defending PBA Governors’ Cup champions Barangay Ginebra went back on the winning track after prevailing against Blackwater Bossing, 109-100, on Friday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Veteran import Justin Brownlee led the team with 25 points while Japeth Aguilar added 18 markers to snap their four-game losing streak in the conference and win their first game in 2022.
Ginebra asserted their might against Blackwater early in the first quarter with Brownlee, Aguilar, and Scottie Thompson teaming up for a 37-20 lead.
The Gin Kings continued their scoring rampage in the next two quarters and even posted a lead as high as 29 points in the third canto.
The Bossing sought to end their opponents’ dominating performance in the fourth quarter from import Sean Glover and veteran playmaker JV Casio, but it was too late as they only managed to trim their deficit to eight points in the final seconds of the contest.
“Today, we played a much better game. I’m disappointed with our fourth quarter, we made the game more exciting than we need to be. But we played well and shot well,” said Ginebra head coach Tim Cone, whose team now holds a 4-4 record.
Glover led Blackwater with 29 points while Casio turned back the clock with 27 markers in his best game with the team since being traded from Alaska.
The Ariel Vanguardia-mentored Bossing is now 0-8 in the conference and suffered their 27th straight loss, extending their losing streak that is the worst in league history.
